featured in deko

During this past summer, Finnish interiors magazine Deko has featured two projects designed by me.
Mattolaituri in 7/11 and Tiger Sushi in 8/11.

workplace health

There is a lot to workplace health – the right lighting, air quality, desk hight, posture etc. I think an important factor is also visual appeal. I decided to tackle this fall´s workload by investing in a classic which will pass all the criteria I am personally looking for from a work chair. It was important for me to buy this Eames Soft Pad chair used, because you can´t beat the hand and patina of vintage leather. I was actually bummed I didn´t bring one with me during my move from LA, where there is plenty available. After some research, this one was found from German Ebay.

right shade of blue

Sometimes just choosing the right shade of color can be the most challenging task in a project. I was determined to find the shade of blue I had in my mind and seen in some inspirational pictures in. Finally I was able to match the color with Pantone´s Blue 072. And the doors turned out just the color I wanted!

before and after 2

Before and after images are always fun. These are from an advertising agency Euro RSCG I did recently. The first ones are from the entry lobby, the second two from their multi-function showroom/meeting space. Ok, I must admit this is a bit cheating since the before shots are quite lousy, taken by me with my Iphone and the after shots shot by a professional photographer Mikko Ryhänen. But you get the picture.. I will be updating my site with new project images in August so more pictures from this one, as well as some others, are on their way. But for now – I´m off on summer holiday!!

talking serious

Recently I was featured in a Finnish economy newspaper Talouselämä talking about well-being at workplace, the sick building syndrome and what can I as a LEED certified designer do to make people feel better in their environments.

all that shimmers

Lately I have been very fond of gold, bronze and other warm metals. Especially with a beautiful old patina and texture in them. That works so well as a detail and finishing touch in accessories as well as interiors. The bag is my new baby, Alexander Wang Bucket Bag I got from My o My today.

STCKHLM

We just had a wonderful long weekend in the sunny Stockholm with some friends. We stayed at the hotel Rival, where I totally recommend a room with a balcony! Some other highlights were having lunch at the Urban Deli by Nytorget while the kids were taking naps in their strollers. We also drank some shampagne at the hotel Berns terrace and had delicious fish at the restaurant  B.A.R. There are so many great parks for kids, especially in Söder, so it was extremely easy to travel with two 2.5 year old in our crew! I did my best shopping on Krukmakargatan in Söder: some nice jewelry from the Nitty Gritty, a cool one of a kind floor lamp from the Brandstationen (pictured already in our livingroom) and the best selection of design books and magazines from the Paper Cut. Such a fun weekend and it´s only 45min plane ride away!

finnair’s new look

Finnair lounched it´s new brand identity this past winter and it is more then just a new font and uniforms. The new corporate identity and the key idea “Piece of mind” behind it  extends to service re-branding as well as interiors. I have had the previlege to be part of that process. More about the projects later.

Review

Mattolaituri and it´s interiors got a nice review at the Finnish restaurant blog Dinner4U. Picture from Dinner4U.

Gulled @ Telakka shipyard

The Swedish furniture agency Gulled, representing Tom Dixon, HAY and Magis in Scandinavia, is opening a showroom in Helsinki in June. The location is the truly inspiring Telakka, former Wärtsilä shipyard and the designer of the space is me.
